Synopsis
Balthasar Fridilin Elber was born in Nafels. He married Louisa Kagi; they had three children: Joseph, 1889 in Paris, Idaho, Katherine Barbara, 1895, and Fred. Balthasar died in 1898, and Louisa married Rudolf Aschliman. When Joe did not get along with his step-father, he ran away across the mountains to Star Valley where he stayed briefly with the Nield family. He lived with the John N. Moser family and went to school and church with them. In 1907, he went with Charles Moser to work in Idaho. He married Grace Lillian Clark in 1914. They lived and worked at several places. He was killed by a tipping wagonload of hay and a runaway team in 1927. *Joseph Elber’s wife wrote a poem at the time of his death. It is included in this selection. *Contributed by Karen Fluckiger
