Synopsis
Barn was owned by Senator Wilford Hemmert - Built near the end of World War II - Dana Street - Thayne. This barn is part of the Barn Again Project #76. From the February 2005 SVHS Calendar, Jack Hemmert/Ken Hokanson Barn (Thayne) "Barn was built in the 1940s and took six months to build. It was built of cinderblock & pine lumber. Gravel from Salt River was used to make the cement. Design was local & was built by Duane Castle and Wilford Hemmert. The purpose was to milk & house 25 dairy cows. The other purpose of the barn was for basketball games in the loft. All the kids in Thayne came to play. It's still used today for basketball. Current use is for calving. Wood stanchions & mangers were taken out in 1969. Farm consists of 500 acres & registered Hereford cattle & hay and Grain are raised.
